A New Owl!

Check out how cute this little Ric Rack Owl is! Kate from See Kate Sew picked me {and a few others} to test out her pattern!! I made one for each of the boys...and of course could only grab a picture of 1 of the boys with his owl...the other 2 were non-compliant. Well, ok...I fibbed a little bit. Ethan was at school and Griffin wouldn't sit still....he kept throwing his owl across the room. So Sam was the only willing one! :)

Whats not to love about that cute little owl!? They would make a great gift, and with Christmas just around the corner? Imagine that cute owl peering out the top of your little one's stocking waiting to be loved to so many years to come! The pattern is available here! Oh my goodness!! Why have I not heard of Sarah Jane Fabric before?! How has this slipped by me? I literally stumbled upon it yesterday when I was looking at iron on embroidery patterns, and then I discovered the cutest fabric ev-ah. Not kidding. I bought all the boy collections. I can see a super cute quilt in the near future. And some cute bibs. Oh my gosh. I can hardly contain my excitement!!! It's a tough call, but I think this one is my favorite:

It's just all American boy, and so incredibly cute. It's really really hard to find such cute boy fabric, that would work well for an older boy too. I am so excited. I think I might end up changing up E's room with this line!

Argus Leader!

YellowPlumBlossoms was featured in the Argus Leader yesterday! For those of you who don't live in the area, it's our local newspaper. It was a really sweet article that also featured another cute Etsy shop Sweet Sapling. You can read the article HERE.

In other notes, G had his 9 month check the other day, and believe it or not, this little cutie weighs 25 lbs!!! That's only 3lbs LESS than my 2 1/2 year old weighs! Wowza! Try carrying that on your hip all day! :)

So what do you guys think of the new Ann Kelle prints? Love them? What's not to love about them!? I just got a few pieces in the mail yesterday, and I am so happy with them. I ordered the cute little turtles, and birds, owls, and zig zag print. I can't tell you how cute they are!! I see some cute bibs in the works with these.

Monaco Patchwork.

I have finally finished the Monaco patchwork baby quilt. I love how it turned out. I decided to go 100% organic and use organic cotton Sherpa for the backing. Have you ever worked with that stuff?! WoW! It's oh so soft and just gorgeous. I am thoroughly impressed and will be buying more, hands down. It's nice and thick which allowed me to get away without using any batting.

This time, rather than quilting it, I hand tied in all the corners of the squares with light pink embroidery floss. I am so impressed with how it turned out, I want to make one for G {in the boy pattern of course!}

It's time for a little patchwork blanket again! I am going all organic this time. First organic quilt I've made! I am using the Monaluna Monaco fabric {for girls}. This is one of my favorite fabric lines. I just love everything about it! Of course everything that Jennifer designs is just adorable!

Today, at 12:53pm I turn 30. Wow. 30. I can remember when I had a babysitter who was 30 and she was "so old", and now here I sit, feeling so young still! Does it always stay that way? Will I feel this way when I am 40? So weird. You would think you feel wiser or different somehow, but really....I don't. I still feel 25.

I just had a great week-long visit with my family from California, and now it's back to reality tomorrow. We had a great time! Too bad the weather kept us house bound 2 of the 5 days! Hot and humid do not go hand in hand. But we did light of some early fireworks...and I have the mosquito bites to prove it!

I've never mailed that much stuff before, I was a little nervous about it, but I've spoken with the owner and everything arrived safe and sound!

I know it's been a while, sorry guys! I am still here!! :) G started crawling, which is keeping me VERY busy, and has begun only giving me hour naps...leaving me little to no time to sew, blog, or create...but thats ok! He's only little for such a short time right?!

I only have 3 ruffle bags left in the shop, and as of today they are on sale {at a BIG DISCOUNT} They came down from $58 to $40. I will not be making any more ruffle bags, unless I get a custom order for one. I will be replacing these with reusable, washable market totes to carry your grocery items in {sorry none to show off just yet}....they are pretty cute and should be in the shop within the next few weeks! These are the three ruffle bags I have left:

Perfect to use for a weekend getaway this summer, or use everyday as a carry-all bag or diaper bag!

In other news...E lost his first AND second tooth, the tooth fairy came, and the dog chewed up my tooth fairy pillow I made for him. E was pretty upset with her, and thought the tooth fairy wouldn't be able to come until he had another one! So I am off to make a new one!

It's Finally Done!!

I got it finished {except for the binding}. Which for the binding I've decided {with help from some great comments - thank you!!} to go with the orange polka dots. I have a feeling it's going to be really really cute!! I can't wait to show you when it's complete! :) I love hoe it looks kinda puffy, I used a medium weight batting. Never used that kind before, and I love how it turned out. Almost looks stuffed!

This little cutie wants to help me...

I didn't realize how hard it was to lay out and piece together a quilt with an infant who can't keep his hands off anything...I can't wait until he's crawling...I have a feeling my sewing projects might be shoved to the back burner once that starts!

This is Meaghan's quilt so far. I have sewn 3 rows together so far. I am stuck on what to use for the binding...any of you quilters out there got a good idea for me? The back is going to be the Michael Miller Ta Dot in the Ocean {the turquoise one in the picture} For the binding I was thinking about doing the blue check {Anne Kelle Remix} or the green check...not sure how that will go with the back? AND....if you know of a good, not confusing tutorial for binding/bias tape...please send it my way!! :)

Ruffle Up Your Kitchen!! {a tutorial}

We all LOVE ruffles, don't we?! I don't get the opportunity to use many ruffles in my home, or on my kids for that matter...having a house full of boys leaves little room for girly stuff!

I figured since I was using a aqua color handtowel and aqua and green fabric, it wouldn't be too big of a deal! And it turned out really really cute! So I will share this super easy way to 'dress up your kitchen' tutorial with you!

First you want to gather all your materials. For this project you will need:

A spring colored handtowel {I got mine a Kohls for like $6}
Coordinating Fabric { 2 four inch strips about 26 inches long each} I found my fabric here
scissors or a rotary cutter
a ruler and a self healing mat
Pins
Iron
Sewing Machine

Next you want to measure the width of your handtowel. Now take your number and multipy it by 2. That's how long you need your strips of fabric for the ruffles. I like to make sure that we have PLENTY of ruffles, so I always multiply by two...you could even go two and a half if you wanted. It will give you lots and lots of ruffles!

Now you can cut your fabric. I cut mine at 3 inches wide, but wished I would have done 4 inches for a thicker ruffle. You can do whichever you like. They will both turn out really cute!! Your ruffle won't actually be this wide as you are going to fold over the edges and press so your ruffles won't fray. They will end up being about 1.5 inches or so.

You could even do 3 or 4 rows of ruffles, rather than just 2 like I did!!

Make sure your iron is hot and ready to go! Fold over yout fabric strips about an inch on each side so they don't fray in the wash. Press with iron.

Do the same to the other strip of fabric.

Once you have done that you will have 2 long strips of fabric. Now it's time to make our ruffles!!

I layed mine about 3 inches from the botton of the front of the handtowel. I trimmed the edges with pinking shears. Over the washes it will fray just a little giving it a very cute and worn look.

To make your ruffles simply fold the fabric {make a little pleat}, the more messy, the better! Try not to make it perfect and spaced evenly. If you make the pleats really random and crooked it will turn out really cute and unique! Pin each time you make a ruffle so it stays in place while you finish.

Once you have all your pins in and your ruffles made it will look like this! Try to keep the line straight. If it helps, draw a line with washable fabric marker on your handtowel to use that as a guide to place the ruffles. A straight line will help when sewing the ruffles down too.

I sewed my ruffles about 1/4 of an inch from each edge.

Don't forget to back-stitch at each end!!

Do the same thing with the next ruffle. Pin and Sew.

Try to stay as straight as possible. I got a little uneven at times...but thats ok. It adds more character! :)

Now your done!! I also added a cute little chick to mine to make it more springy.

Just pin and sew as close to the edge as possible. Over time and washes, the edges will fray...leaving it very cute and unique! I folded my towel in thirds, and centered the chick before pinning.

See? What do you think? I love it. Looks really cute in my kitchen. Makes it nice and springy with a little hint of ruffle! I hope you enjoy making yours! If you do, send me a link! I would love to see it! :)

I've found some really cool things on etsy lately. Things I've never even thought to search for! And with Spring cleaning just around the corner...

I love a good natural eco friendly house cleaning product. And I just LOVE the cute containers she puts them in, AND that there is HE efficient laundry detergent!!! Her cute packages are reusable, and you will save $$ when you keep them and buy a refill!! I ordered mine this morning, and can't wait to smell them! All these wonderful products can be found in Mrs. Jones' Soapbox etsy store!

Doesn't this look delicious!? Looks like meringue pie in the top! Or a creamy butter! Yummy :) I'll bet it smells just as good as it looks. It's called Pear Olive Oil Soap and can be found in Maple Hill Farm's etsy shop!

Quilt's I'd Like To Try!

I bought this pattern about a month or so ago from Cluck Cluck Sew, and I have been dying to try it...just trying to find the perfect fabric for it! Isn't it so cute? Would make the perfect baby quilt. I love that it comes in crib size too!!

I found this beautiful orange quilt over at Sew Sara. She makes really nice quilts, and it gave me inspiration to make my rag quilt! I'd love to make an orange quilt sometime in the future!

This is probably one of my favorite quilt designs. I LOVE LOVE LOVE how it looks like it belongs in a nursery. I just love it. I think it would be really hard to get the shapes accurate though. I found this design over at A Quilt is Nice.

This quilt has been one of my favorite designs for a LONG time! I love how original it is. I actually made it last year, but have yet to finish it. Over half the work is already done, all that's left is the quilting, and putting the front and back together, and the binding!! I always seem to find something else that must be worked on! I found this beautiful quilt design over at Cluck Cluck Sew again {I love her blog}.

A Few of My Favorites.

After months of my hubby begging me to make a super soft minky blanket or quilt for the couch, I finally decided to just do it! I am going to make a rag quilt with my favorite fabrics on the front and the back will be some sort of super soft minky.

It requires 100 squares!! Wowza! Thats a lot of cutting!!! I choose 16 different fabrics, and threw in a couple more at the last minute that I just couldn't resist. Our couches are a dark green with brown piping, and I've been wanting to paint the walls a new shade from Benjamin Moore thats a blue-ish grey. {So Pretty}...but I wasn't sure how my green couches would look with it. I think this quilt will tie them together perfeclty! Especially with the white trim we have, I can't wait to show you guys...now don't get too excited...painting seems to take us ages around here!!

Watching What I Eat. {literally}

I've been trying to watch what I eat lately. I actually got down to the size I wore after baby #2. It just doesn't seem to fit the same. There is fat that is in different places now. Ugh. But I still would like to loose 10 more lbs. {wouldn't we all!?} Seems like the last 10lbs are the hardest to loose.

Now I'm not about to go on the Biggest Loser or do anything drastic!! ESPECIALLY when all I can ~~eat~~ think about is delicious sweets. I mean really, who can resist these, especially with the photography that makes it look.so.good:

Seriously!? Did that really just happen?? I'm sure it's happened to ALL of us, but seriously?!

The other night E and S were taking a bath before bed. Daddy was doing the dirty work while I rocked baby G. Me and G decided to head downstairs

and tell the big bro's good night.

Next thing I know E looks at me and says "I had to go poopie and then I was sitting in the tub, and now look what happened". I didn't want to, but I had to.

I didn't want to play go fish.

Of course the tub was filled with bubbles, so trying to see exactly what he was talking about became a little bit more challenging. I thought I saw it. I yanked Sam out of the tub, and told him not to touch anything, especially his mouth

{yes I am a germaphobe like that}.

And guess who the lucky one was to go fish!? {ME} Oh Joy. I don't know how in the world a submarine of that size managed to "sneak" it's was out in the bathtub. Totally gross. Is this something only a 5 year old boy would do? Or would a girl do this too? Is this the kind of stuff I get to look forward to for the next 20 years?

Give me a can of Lysol, and some sani wipes and I think I might survive.

Let's Hear it For The Boys!!

Ugh! I just love that song from the 80's...now it's going to be stuck in my head all day again!
I finally got some boy-ish diaper bags in the works. I debated for the longest time about putting ruffles on the diaper bag with boy material on it. Finally I decided you know that bag is mostly for us Mom's anyhow, and I would definelty want something girly {heck I have 3 boys and I carry a pink scooter diaper bag, haha} So I put boy-ish ruffles on it! Turned out so cute I have 2 more in the works! Check it out:

Then I made this organic blanket for a bloggy friend of mine who just had a little boy:

When too much sewing happens! My house becomes a disaster.

The laundry takes over my bed,

the dishes take over my sink {this is actually pretty mild - and of course its full of bottles!}

and the my kids start blowing the dust around the floor. {that's a sure sign of it's time for a sewing break}

I need to take a sewing break, and clean! That is my goal today. So far...SUCCESS!! It smells like Meyer's Clean Day in here...and it smells delicious! :) I just bought that stuff from Target on my last trip and I love it. It smells so yummy, and is safe for your home!! I love effective and safe cleaning products!!

A Little About Me...

Yep. That's me. And my loves. My three son's and my hubster. :)

I wanted you to get to know me a little bit today!

I like to consider myself a SAHM, even though I practically have 2 full time jobs...or three! I work outside of my home while my husband stays home with the boys, which allows me to be home during the week, while he is at work. It's hard not really seeing each other much...but it's not forever...it's just for now. One day I hope to finish my degree for Paralegal...but not until the kids are much older!

I started my Etsy business in Dec. of 2010. When my youngest was just 3 months old. I know it's a lot to take on, but I really really love to sew, so I jumped in with both feet!

{and I can only make so many things for my own children}

Speaking of sewing...I had NEVER sewn anything my entire life until last May. I asked for a sewing machine for mothers day, and my first project was my son's quilt, I was bound a determined to make him something, that was cute and handmade by me. :)

Even though I am sure we are done having crazy kids {and normal ones too},

I'd still love to have a little girl!!

My littlest turns 6 months old TODAY. I can't believe it. He's almost sitting up...

see the cute little sticker on his shirt!? Makes it so easy to remember his age and such a cute easy way too! It;s just a little sticker that you peel off and stick to the shirt and when your done...save it for the baby book or toss! I love it. I found them on etsy in her cut little shop here.

I just love how they match little G's quilt!

How did you take your baby's monthly photos? Did you take them on a special quilt every month like we do? Did you use a special stuffed animal to watch his growth? I'd love to hear some ideas!

I know this is a terrible picture...but it's the best I could get with a 5 month old who wont. stop. wiggling! He's got 2 teeth!!! No wonder he has been soaking his shirts like he's in his own wet tee contest!
